Th Assisted Living Forum was held December 12, 2017 via Adobe Connect. Below are some of the items discussed at that meeting.

·       HCBS Certification - As you know, as of January 1, 2018 BAL surveyors will now oversee the Federal Home and Community Based Services (HCBS) Certification review. An announcement will come soon on the AL Forum/DHS listserve (sign up here: https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/regulations/listserv-signup.htm)

Reminder: HCBS regulations not directly correlated to an existing WI regulation include: 1) Timeliness of resident access to personal funds.2) Initial and annual resident rights training for everyone paid and unpaid (no exemptions or prior training at other facilities will apply). 3) Regular review by facilities of resident rights policy. 4) Lockable bedroom and apartment entrance doors by the individual, with only appropriate staff having keys (CBRF and AFH). 5) Resident input on roommate choice (CBRF and AFH). 6) Freedom to furnish room within bounds of the agreement (CBRF and AFH). 7) Ability for residents to meet with visitors 24/7).

 

·       Reporting, prevention, and control of acute respiratory illness outbreaks in Assisted Living Facilities - Thomas Haupt, Influenza Surveillance Coordinator/Research Scientist, was unable to attend the forum to discuss the memo Reporting, prevention, and control of acute respiratory illness outbreaks in Assisted Living Facilities. The memo is intended as guidance to medical and administrative staff of long-term care facilities (LTCF) in Wisconsin. Guidance marked “required” is mandatory per Wisconsin Statute 252 or Wisconsin Administrative Code DHS 145.

 

It is left to the discretion of facility staff whether to use the remainder of this guidance wholly or in part, or to use recommendations from another source to prevent and control respiratory illness in their facility. Read the full memo at the link below:
